NoAdware Review    By Tom Armstrong

There's a lot of basic things wrong with NoAdware. The interface is small, dated and ugly. It lacks the level of protection have. It's over-priced. And the reporting is poor. Not recommended.

What does this software do? NoAdware scans your computer and hunts down any spyware that might be infecting it. After performing a scan it will show a list of the threats on your PC. You can then click a button to remove these problems.
Buying notes The credit card payments for this product are handled by a company called Clickbank. They are a huge company with a track record spanning many years and offer excellent customer support. I've bought many products through this company and never had any problems.
First impressions The first thing that I noticed about NoAdware is that it runs in the tiniest window you could imagine. I mean everything is squashed into this little letter box view. There's a maximize button on the top but it doesn't work. And the buttons and everything else look very dated. First impressions? Not good.
Real time protection NoAdware includes a real time browser shield to protect your browsing experience from homepage and search hijackers, as well as an activeX blocking mechanism that will prevent malicious items being installed in the first place.
Product updates I couldn't get an answer from the support staff with regards to definition updates but they appear to be at least a couple of times per week.
Customer Support If you need support for this product, you'll have to use their email support link. There's no phone support available. I tested out the email support system and got a long email back. This might sound good but there was a lot of promotional text in there and I didn't feel like my questions were answered fully.
What I liked Installation was easy and the software is straight forward.

I didn't encounter any problems when I installed the tool and the scan ran quickly.

Extra details on each threat

Clicking on a threat will give a short explanation of what each problem is. It's just a shame that the 'Danger' levels aren't better thought out.
What I didn't like Dangerous / Severe warnings that don't make sense

On the reporting screen, every threat is RED - even the non critical ones. And the other labels for threats are things like 'Dangerous' and 'Severe'. I mean which is worse? Dangerous or Severe? This is poorly thought out and just doesn't look professional.

No yearly subscription fee

You might thing that this belongs in the 'what I liked' section. But I think it's bad news if you buy a tool that relies heavily on regular updates and it doesn't cost you a renewal fee. In my experience those tools don't last.

No notification of updates

I found that the software was unable to detect when new updates were available. Instead, I had to manually click on 'Update Protection' each time.

Ugly interface

Not only does NoAdware run in a very small window but it looks incredibly dated and unprofessional. The font size is tiny, the icons look like they're from Windows 3.11, and there's no way to resize it from the tiny letter box format.

Buggy shutdown & minimize

I had problems closing down the tool. Clicking on the X on the program window didn't actually do anything. I had to minimize it using the - button. It then popped up a message saying it would move to the system tray. But actually it just disappeared. There's no icon in the tray so you're never sure if the tool is actually still running.
Strengths
  • Easy to install & run
  • Short explanation of each threat
Weaknesses
  • Tiny, non-resizable window
  • Hard-to-read fonts & an unattractive interface
  • No product update notifications
  • Very strange 'Danger' warnings
  • No ongoing subscription plans
  • Didn't shut down or minimize properly
  • Customer support could be better
The verdict NoAdware is yet another tool that promises the earth but just doesn't deliver. Compared to the other tools in this market, it doesn't fare well at all. I would not rely on this tool to protect my system from spyware. I also found it difficult to shut it down. My recommendation would be to forget this tool. There are better products available in 2010 for less money.
